Conference on Mathematics and its Applications in Engineering and Industry, (Dec. 16-18, 1996)

Modren day Technological problems arising in various Industries are complex in nature which can not be sloved in isolation and usually call for multidisciplinary expertise. It is the need of the day that mathematicians, scientists and engineers interact with the technocrats and executives in the industry to help industry in achieving sophistication efficiency and economy. Keeping this in view the Department of Mathematics organised a Conference on Mathematics and its Applications in Engineering and Industry as an activity under the sesquicentennial year celebrations of the University from Dec. 16-18, 1996.

Over one hundred and twenty delegates from teaching institutions, research organisations and industries attended the conference. Prof. J.N. Kapur, an emi nent Mathematician of International repute, inagurated the conference. The conference took stock of the emerging trends in mathematics and their use in solving real istic problems of engineering and industry. The scientific programmes of the conference consisted of plenary lectures, invited talks and contributed papers . A symposium on the 'Role of Mathematics in Emerging Technological and Industrial Scenario of the Country' was also organised during the conference. Besides Roorkee University and UGC, organisations such as Indian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, U.P. State Council for Scientific and Industrial Rese arch, Defence Research Organisation, Department of Atomic Energy and Engineers India Limited etc. sponsored the conference.
