    GENERAL INFORMATION
    Roorkee Entrance Examination (REE-99)
    The University of Roorkee (UOR) conducts a competitive entrance examination on All India basis to attract the brightest students for admission to its four year Bachelor's degree courses in Engineering (B.E.) and five year degree course in Architecture (B.Arch.).
    All precautions are taken to maintain the required discipline in the conduct of REE in order to ensure absolute fairness to all the competing candidates. In 1998 a total of 61,465 candidates registered for the entrance examination.


    Introduction
    (a) The entrance examination will be held at a number of centres in the country on Wednesday May 12 and Thursday May 13, 1999.
    (b) Admission through the Entrance Examination (REE -99) will be for the first year of the Bachelor's degree courses in (i) Architecture and (ii) nine branches of Engineering viz. Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & Technology, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Pulp & Paper.
    (c) The REE-99 will have five papers as given below:

    (d) The candidates opting only for B.E. courses will appear in the first four papers viz. Qualifying, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
    (e) The candidates opting for the B.Arch. course will have to appear in all the five papers including the Aptitude Test paper.
    (f) The Qualifying paper will have objective questions. There will be 100 single choice and multiple choice questions ( 40 of Mathematics and 30 each of Physics and Chemistry) each carrying One mark. There will be no negative marking in the Qualifying paper.
    On the basis of the performance in this paper, a cut-off limit will be decided by the University at approximately 20 times the total number of seats and the candidates within this limit will be deemed to have qualified. Answer books of only those candidates who have qualified in the qualifying paper will be examined in the remaining papers.
    (g) Once a candidate has qualified as in (f) above his / her merit for final selection will be determined only on the basis of his / her performance in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) for admission to B.E. and performance in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Aptitude Test (PCMA) for B.Arch.
    (h) All the students have to reside in the University Campus at Roorkee except those admitted to Pulp and Paper Engineering, who will reside in the Institute of Paper Technology (IPT), Saharanpur campus of the University about 45 km f rom Roorkee.
    (i) The University reserves the right to change the rules & regulations of REE-99 without notice.
