    (a) The total number of seats available in various degree courses are as given below :

    The University reserves the right to alter the number of seats in any branch without notice.

    Reserved Seats
    Certain number of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various categories, the details of which along with their respective quota at present are given below :

    (a) TWENTY ONE PERCENT of the seats in every branch of study are reserved for candidates of Scheduled Caste (SC) Category. The requisite certificate must be submitted in the prescribed performa.

    (b) TWO PERCENT of the seats in every branch of study are reserved for candi dates of Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The requisite certificate must be submitted on the prescribed performa.

    (c) TWENTY SEVEN PERCENT of the seats in every branch of study are reserved for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) of U.P. State only according to the list approved by the Government of U.P. in Schedule I. The requisite certificate must be submitted in the prescribed proforma, failing which the candidate will be considered belonging to the creamy layer and included in general category and no subsequent request for a change of category will be accepted. The certificate should be a recent one issued after 31 .8.1998.

    The reservation under this clause shall not, however, apply to the sons and daughters of those belonging to the creamy layer of the other backward classes specified in Schedule II by the U.P. Government.

    (d) Two seats are reserved for the Son / Daughter and Grand Son (Son's Son) / Grand daughter (Son's unmarried Duughter) of freedom fighters.Such candidates should produce a recent cetrificate from the District Magistrate issued after 3 1.8.1998 and submit it along with the application form failing which they would be considered under the general category only. Such candidates will be offered seats for admission in the least preferred branch of Engineering or Architecture.

    (e) ONE PERCENT of the total seats are reserved for Physically Hadicapped candidates. A Medical Board apponted by the University will decide branches which cannot be offered on the basis of the nature of disability to a candidate. Out of the remaining branches the candidates will be offered branches as per the University policy.
    A certificate from Chief Medical Officer / Civil Surgeon to support the physically handicapped status should be submitted along with the Application Form.
    Further, the provision in paras (d) and (e) above are to be applied horizontally to the various categories, i.e. General, SC,ST and OBC candidates.

    (f) Besides above there is also a provision of additional six seats for admission, reserved for the children of the members of the Alumni Association of University of Roorkee / University Employees ( including two of them for the children of deseased University Emlpoyees who died while in University service / deseased Alumni Association member ) with 2 % reduction in cut off percentage. The candidates claiming benefit under this category must provide proof of the same by attaching reqisite certificate alongwith the Application Form. To this effect, candidates claiming admission under alumni category must furnish a certificate from the Secretary, Alumni Association, U.O.R., Roorkee while candidates claiming admission under University of Roorkee Employees category must furnish a certificate from the Registrar, U.O.R., Roorkee.
    A member of the Alumni Association should be a life member of Alumni Association on the date of application, and an Emlpoyee should be in continuous University service for at least three years preceding the year in which his / her ward seeks admission or should have retired from the University after after putting in at least five years of service. Such candidates will be offered seats for admission in the least preffered branch of Engineering or Architecture. It will be noted that merely having degree or diploma of University of Roorkee will not make a person eligible under Alumni category unless he / she is a member of Alumni Association.
    The provision given in para (a) and (f) above are subject to modificatio ns as per orders of the competent authority up to the date of Entrance Examination.
