ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
M.Sc. BIOTECHNOLOGY
It is a 2 year - 4 semesters
duration post graduate program sponsored by Department of Biotechnology
(DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The objective
of this teaching program is to provide intensive and up-to- date training
in the fast moving area of biotechnology to top students with background
in basic and applied sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture,
veterinary science. The basis of structure-functioninteraction of biological
molecules, enzymes, microbes, immune systems, gene expression, fermentation,
computational techniques, cell-tissue cultures, etc. are covered (in the
courses listed below) with a view of their application for use in agriculture,
food processing & drinks, pharmaceutical, computer aided designing,
vaccines, and production of useful chemicals.
In the teaching scheme, total
of 20 units of courses are to be completed during four semesters as given
below :

Ph.D. PROGRAM
*********************************************************************************
Ph.D. program is offered in
specific areas of research listed elsewhere in this document to students
having CSIR/UGC (NET qualified) fellowship at any time of the year. Besides,
a limited number of students having no source of fellowship are also admitted
to Ph.D. program depending upon facilities and funds available in a research
group. Students employed in sponsored research projects are also registered
for the Ph.D. program.
ELIGIBILITY :
Master's degree in any discipline
of science and Engineering with a minimum of 55%. of total marks.
INTAKE :
The intake is restricted to
5 full time research fellows per faculty member. Registration as part time
research fellow is available provided a student spends minimum of one year
residency period at University of Roorkee and the remaining period in a
national laboratory/institution recognised by the University of Roorkee
for conducting research. Vacancies in sponsored Research Projects are advertised
through notices sent to various Indian Universities/National Laboratories.
Interested students may send their biodata to Head of the department at
any time of the year to explore the availability of Ph.D. admissions.
